Books & Weddings

W'e’ve been seeing an uptick of future brides and grooms coming into the Barn in search of books for their weddings.

As we learned from Julie’s blog post To Have & To Hold, physical books have made quite a comeback. We are always happy to see books in peoples’ hands, peeking out of their book totes, and to see readers sitting in coffee shops and the like, noses deep in the pages of a book.

The wedding trend seems to be a new one, so we want to celebrate it and share more about it with you here.

Recently, a groom-to-be came to the Barn and beelined to our banned books section. He and his fianceé are giving banned books out as favors to their guests. Another day, a bride-to-be came to the barn with her fiancé in search of a vintage copy of The Great Gatsby. They are having a Gatsby themed wedding on a bluff and wanted to have an old copy of the book at the wedding. They purchased another vintage book to use as a seating chart.

We had a customer come and ask us for books that were both vintage and falling apart, so she could use the paper to make a heart garland for her wedding, while another wanted vintage books in the shade of blue for her guest book table (as the “something blue” for her wedding). Do you love this idea as much as I do?

We love this idea. We’ve also had people buy and gift multiples of classics like Dracula and Frankenstine for Halloween favors, but that’s another story for another season. TC
